A Tricky Spam Trick

So you think you know how to handle all that email that keeps arriving. You do all the right things...

But, they keep sending to you again and again and they must spread your email address around in some way.

Now there is something new that lets them know they are reaching an active email address and you are getting their spam.

So, if you see an innocuous URL on the page. You click on it to take a quick peek at their Website.

Do you know what really can happen?

If not, click here to see what happens in the real world:

(This just brings up a picture of a partial email sent to me. If I clicked on the URL in the email, my information would be sent to a different host who would notify the sender of who I am and get even more information about me. This picture tells the story.)

As you see, if you go to their Website they learn who you are and even which one of their mailings you replied to.

The same thing happens if you see a return address with a number of unrelated letters or numbers somewhere in or at the end of the address.

So what can we do? Don't even click on these things.

If you are curious about an address, just slowly run your cursor over the URL without clicking. It may bring up the little window showing you what will happen if you do click.

Here is another example. It gives the mailing number and your spam (customer) code. Aren't computers great!
